Project Idea

Compsey Creamery approached us to develop the look of their brand to match their products. Their previous branding was harsh and had a value-focused look. This did not reflect the high-end cheese and cream products that they produce in Ireland using milk from grass-fed cows.

Project Description

To ensure that we could maximize the outputs within their budget we guided Compsey Creamery and made recommendations. We took their existing logo and striped it back to the text only. New colours were selected for the brand and these were applied to the updated logo. We developed versions that would sit on light and dark backgrounds for flexibility. This logo update was a quick way to lift the brand to a more premium look and meant that most of their budget could then be used to develop the rest of the visual identity.

We developed a range of supporting brand design elements. These additional elements make a brand much stronger visually and allow future designs to stand out from competitors. Once all the branding visuals were approved, we put them together in a brand guideline. This guideline ensures that all designs follow the same look and feel to create brand consistency. All the groundwork for the branding means that designs for items such as posters, pull up banners, tradeshow stands and brochures are faster to design, and they follow the same style for impact. We designed new labels for the 11 different Compsey Creamery products based on the copy that was supplied to us. “Naturally Consistent Nature consistently delivers and at Compsey Creamery we strive to do the same. Nestled in the enclosed valley of Slievenamon, we’re surrounded by nature. Nourishing rain sustains the green grass hills that provide a rich source of nutrients for our grass-fed dairy cows. Their milk doesn’t travel far to get to us. Our suppliers’ farms are located within a 5km radius. When the milk arrives, our team of experts apply diligent care and skill to craft rich, luxurious Irish dairy products which we are proud to supply under the Compsey brand. We work closely with the finest chefs and producers around Europe to ensure that our made-to-order products are delivered with consistency and without compromise. Exceptional dairy is in our nature.” To visually capture the essence of this text we incorporated watercolour images of cows and a lush green landscape. We also included images of the products themselves to highlight the creamy, rich textures. Each products label design also featured a watercolour image of serving suggestions and its own distinct colour to aid differentiation. Technical print specification was discussed with their printers so that the finished printed labels were of the highest quality possible.

Who are Compsey Creamery

In their own words.. “Compsey Creamery was set up in 1985 with the main objective being to add value to the milk supplied by the local farmer shareholders.  That first week’s production run consisted of a 500 gallon vat of milk being converted into Cottage Cheese.  Over the following years, Cream Cheese & Yogurt was added, and so began the Compsey Creamery journey. We feel it is very important for us to engage with our customers, to form strong relations with them, some of whom have been with us since 1985.  Our personal and speedy response to our customers is also very important.  We value each of our customers, and so work hard to continue to maintain the high service level which we have achieved.  We engage on a daily basis with our transport haulier to ensure the safe and efficient delivery of each order. Our yogurts and creams have no added salt, and many of our products are fermented.  We work with our customers to develop products that are suitable for their needs.  Previous projects have included lower fat products, clean declaration products, removing additives, in particular added preservatives and lower salt in cream cheese.  Our range includes a light sour cream which has a 10% fat level.  This compares favourably with standard sour cream which has a fat content of 18-20% fat. We produce Sour Cream, Yogurt, Cream Cheese, Soft Cheese, Cottage Cheese, La Crème Fraiche and Mascarpone. Compsey Creamery is BRC certified and we are members of Origin Green.  We currently supply products to the foodservice and ingredient markets in Ireland, the UK, France and Spain.”

we love the new logo, the new branding and the new labels. After working with anne&co on a slightly smaller job to this it was a no brainer, Anne and her team are amazing and so professional. Eimear is a pleasure to work with and is so talented at what she does – we were honestly blown away by the way she thinks about and approaches these projects. The project gave us a clear picture as to what we should look like and how to create consistency across our internal and external communications and assets for social media graphics, ads and event literature.
